Hi, I’m Phebe, first time Mom to an adorable Little Boy and your new Craft Bestie! Felt The Food was born in 2023, after I was concerned that my son may have a speech delay. One of the things I kept reading about was the ability to incorporate functional play into a child’s routine. I loved playing in my play kitchen as a child and thought my son would as well, turns out I was right! With no prior knowledge of sewing, I decided I was going to teach my son words through functional kitchen play and make felt food! Early on in my journey, I met with a Certified SpeechTherapist and learned how to play with my son in a way that would help to facilitate words. Whether that was through repetition (I can’t tell you how many times I said the word apple, ha!), or motor planning where we were following the pretend recipe card, we were having fun & learning!

Learning functional play gave me the tools to help build my son’s vocabulary. "Momma cook" turned into my son's first 4-word sentence, "momma can I cook"! As my son quickly approaches 3, and the words are very much flowing I’m excited to introduce this fun craft to other Parents, Caregivers, Guardians, and Teachers.
